Dog & Cat Surgery in Belton, TX
While dog and cat surgery can be a stressful topic, many pets will need to undergo surgery at least once. We primarily use surgery to treat acute and chronic problems, in addition to preventing certain issues, such as cancer or infections, from developing.
At Belton Small Animal Clinic, we perform a variety of surgical procedures with precision and care. Furthermore, we place patient safety and pain control above all else. Our veterinarians perform surgeries ranging from routine soft tissue to more complex orthopedic procedures.
Pet Surgical Protocols
On the day of surgery, drop off your pet at the animal hospital between 7:30 and 8 a.m. Please allow time to go over surgical consent paperwork. For their safety, withhold food after 10 p.m. the night before their surgery.
We take every precaution to keep your pet as safe and as pain-free as possible. Before their procedure, they will undergo an exam. We also encourage pre-surgical bloodwork to ensure they have no underlying health problems. If we discover a previously unknown condition, the surgery may be postponed until we can resolve the issue.
Once we clear your dog or cat for surgery, we administer anesthesia and place them on IV fluids. Pain medications are strongly encouraged. During surgery, we carefully monitor your pet.
After surgery, we will call or text you to keep you up-to-date on the status of your pet and communicate post-operative plans.

Additional Dog & Cat Surgery Information
After your pet’s surgery, we offer and recommend laser therapy to speed healing and help manage pain during the recovery process. This is especially useful after orthopedic procedures.
Furthermore, if you would like a microchip for your pet, we suggest having it done while they are still under anesthesia. Although this procedure can be performed at any time while a pet is awake, this is a good opportunity to have it done without any discomfort.
If your dog or cat is in need of surgery or you would like information about any of these procedures, please call us at (254) 939-5823.
